World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Cyprus beats Gibraltar 3-1
NICOSIA, Nov. 13, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Cyprus defeated Gibraltar by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday night at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia.
Cyprus dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Laifis in the 29th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Cypriots further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Sotiriou '65 and Sielis '87).
The result put the Cypriot 5th in Group H with 3 points. Gibraltar is bottom with no points. In their next game, Cyprus will meet Estonia at the GSP Stadium on March 25, while Gibraltar will face Bosnia and Herzegovina.
