World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Cyprus beats Gibraltar 2-1
FARO, Jun. 9, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Cyprus defeated Gibraltar by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday night at the Estádio Algarve in Faro.
R. Chipolina opened the score in the 10th minute with an own goal, before seeing Gibraltar catch up in the 30th minute thanks to Hernandez. 1-1 at half time. The Cypriots eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Sotiriou with just 3 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Cypriot fourth in Group H with 7 points. Gibraltar is bottom with no points. In their next game, Cyprus will meet third-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Estádio Algarve on August 31, while Gibraltar will face Belgium.
