World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Iceland beats Finland 3-2
REYKJAVíK, Oct. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Iceland defeated Finland by a score of 3-2 (halftime: 1-2), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík.
Finland had started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Pukki ('21) and Lod ('39), while Iceland only scored once Árnason ('37). Trailing 2-1 at half time, the Icelanders nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Finnbogason '90 and R. Sigurðsson '90).
The result put the Icelander second in Group I with 4 points. Finland is 5th with one point. In their next game, Iceland will meet third-placed Turkey at the Laugardalsvöllur on October 9, while Finland will face Croatia.
