World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Turkey hold Ukraine to 2-2
KONYA, Oct. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Turkey tied 2-2 with Ukraine (halftime: 1-2), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Torku Arena in Konya.
The Ukrainians started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Yarmolenko ('24 on penalty) and Kravets ('27) while the Turks only scored once Tufan ('45). However, even though they were leading 2-1 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Turkey with a saving goal from Turkish midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu on penalty in the 81st minute.
The result left both teams tied in the third place of Group I with 2 points. In their next game, Ukraine will meet Kosovo at the Torku Arena on October 9, while Turkey will face Iceland.
