REYKJAVíK, Oct. 9, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Iceland defeated Turkey by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 2-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday night at the Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík.
All the action happened in the first half, with goals from Ömer Toprak ('42 own) and Alfreð Finnbogason ('44).
The result put the Icelander second in Group I with 7 points. Turkey is fourth with 2 points. In their next game, Iceland will meet group leaders Croatia at the Laugardalsvöllur on November 12, while Turkey will face Kosovo.
