RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 2, 1979 (AMP) — América 1979 : Brazil defeated Argentina by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a Copa América group stage game (Group B) on Thursday.

The result put the Brazilians second in the group with 3 points. Argentina is bottom with no points. In their next game, Brazil will meet group leaders Bolivia on August 16, while Argentina will face Bolivia.
