QUITO, Aug. 29, 1979 (AMP) — América 1979 : Paraguay defeated Ecuador by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a Copa América group stage game (Group C) on Wednesday.

The result put the Paraguayans top of the group with 3 points. In their next game, Paraguay will meet third-placed Ecuador on September 13, while Ecuador will face Uruguay.
