WASHINGTON, D.C., Sep. 3, 2014 (AMP) — USA 2014 : Costa Rica defeated Nicaragua by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a Copa Centroamericana group stage game (Group B) on Wednesday afternoon at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C..

Costa Rica dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Celso Borges in the 39th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Costa Ricans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Ureña '49 and Venegas '86).

The result put the Costa Ricans top of the group with 3 points. In their last game, Costa Rica will meet Panama at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium on September 7, while Nicaragua will face Panama.
