CARSON, Jul. 7, 2005 (AMP) — USA 2005 : South Africa defeated Mexico by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a Gold Cup group stage game on Thursday.

The result put the South Africans second in Group C with 3 points. In their next game, South Africa will meet group leaders Jamaica on July 9, while Mexico will face Guatemala.
