APIA, Mar. 9, 2002 (AMP) — New Zealand 2002 (Qualifiers) : Samoa defeated Tonga by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 Oceania Nations Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Saturday at the National Soccer Stadium in Apia.

The result put the Samoans second in the group with 3 points. In their next game, Samoa will meet the American Samoa at the National Soccer Stadium on March 14, while Tonga will face the American Samoa.
