MADRID, Jul. 1, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : Austria tied 2-2 with Northern Ireland (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup second round game on Thursday afternoon at the Vicente Calderon Stadium in Madrid.
The Irishs started off well by taking the lead thanks to Irish forward Billy Hamilton in the 27th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, and despite Hamilton goal ('75) in the second period, they could not prevent a comeback by Austria with goals by Bruno Pezzey ('50) and Reinhold Hintermaier ('68).
