GIJóN, Jun. 20, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : Germany defeated Chile by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio El Molinón in Gijón.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge scored tripple goals
Germany dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in the 9th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Rummenigge '57, '66 and Reinders '81).
The result put the Germans top of Group B with 2 points. Chile is bottom with no points. In their last game, Germany will meet third-placed Austria at the Estadio El Molinón on June 25, while Chile will face Algeria.
