Mexico beats Bulgaria to reach World Cup quarterfinals
MEXICO CITY, Jun. 15, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Mexico qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win against Bulgaria (halftime: 1-0) on Sunday at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
Mexico dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Manuel Negrete in the 34th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Mexicans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Servín in the 61st minute.
