Brazil beats Poland to reach World Cup quarterfinals
GUADALAJARA, Jun. 16, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Brazil qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup with a 4-0 win against Poland (halftime: 1-0) on Monday at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara.
Brazil dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Sócrates in the 30th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Brazilians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Josimar '55, Edinho '79 and Careca '83/penalty).
