Spain beats Denmark to reach World Cup quarterfinals
QUERéTARO, Jun. 18, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Spain qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup with a 5-1 win against Denmark (halftime: 1-1) on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Corregidora in Querétaro.
Emilio Butragueño served up another goal feast
Danish midfielder Jesper Olsen opened the score in the 33rd minute on penalty, before seeing Spain catch up in the 43rd minute thanks to Emilio Butragueño. 1-1 at half time. The Spaniards eventually won the game in the second period with four more goals by Butragueño ('56, '80, '88 on penalty) and Goikoetxea ('68 on penalty).
