France beats Brazil in shoot out to advance to World Cup semifinals
GUADALAJARA, Jun. 21, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : France reached the semifinals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup after defeating Brazil 4-3 on penalties (after a 1-1 draw) on Saturday at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara.
The score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Careca ('17) for Brazil and Michel Platini ('40) for France. The Frenchs finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 4-3.
