Brazil beats Chile to reach World Cup quarterfinals
PARIS, Jun. 27, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Brazil qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1998 FIFA World Cup with a 4-1 win against Chile (halftime: 3-0) on Saturday night at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
César Sampaio and Ronaldo scored dual goals
Brazil dominated the first half thanks to goals from Sampaio ('11, '26) and Ronaldo ('45 on penalty). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Brazilians further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Ronaldo in the 72nd minute.
