France beats Paraguay on golden goal to reach World Cup quarterfinals
LENS, Jun. 28, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : France qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1998 FIFA World Cup on Sunday afternoon at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens.
The score was still nil-all after the 90 minutes of regulation time and both teams had to wait for overtime to settle the issue. In the 114th minute, it was ultimately the French defender Laurent Blanc who brought Les Bleus to victory by scoring the winning “golden goal”.
