France beats Italy in shoot out to advance to World Cup semifinals
SAINT DENIS, Jul. 3, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : France reached the semifinals of the 1998 FIFA World Cup after defeating Italy 4-3 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw) on Friday afternoon at the Stade de France in Saint Denis.
The score was still nil-all at the end of the regulation game time and overtime. The Frenchs finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 4-3.
