Netherlands beats Argentina to advance to World Cup semifinals
MARSEILLE, Jul. 4, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : The Netherlands reached the semifinals of the 1998 FIFA World Cup with a 2-1 win against Argentina (halftime: 1-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille.
Dutch forward Patrick Kluivert opened the score in the 12th minute, before seeing Argentina catch up in the 17th minute thanks to Claudio López. 1-1 at half time. The Dutchs eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Bergkamp seconds before the end of regulation.
