FREETOWN, Jan. 11, 1997 (AMP) — France 98 (African Qualifiers) : Sierra Leone defeated Gabon by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 1998 FIFA World Cup on Saturday afternoon.
The result put the Sierra Leoneans second in Group 5 with 3 points. Gabon is bottom with one point. In their next game, Sierra Leone will meet third-placed Ghana on April 5, while Gabon will face Morocco.
