MERIDA, Jan. 12, 1997 (AMP) — France 98 (South American Qualifiers) : Paraguay defeated Venezuela by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 1998 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Sunday.
The result put the Paraguayans second in the group with 14 points. Venezuela is bottom with one point. In their next game, Paraguay will meet Peru on February 12, while Venezuela will face Uruguay.
