MONTEVIDEO, Apr. 2, 1997 (AMP) — France 98 (South American Qualifiers) : Uruguay defeated Venezuela by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 1998 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Wednesday night.
The result put the Uruguayans 6th in the group with 13 points. Venezuela is bottom with one point. In their next game, Uruguay will meet second-placed Paraguay on April 30, while Venezuela will face Chile.
