MONTEVIDEO, Aug. 20, 1997 (AMP) — France 98 (South American Qualifiers) : Uruguay defeated Chile by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 1998 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Wednesday night.
The result put the Chilians fourth in the group with 19 points. Uruguay is 8th with 17 points. In their next game, Chile will meet group leaders Argentina on September 10, while Uruguay will face Peru.
