VILNIUS, Sep. 10, 1997 (AMP) — France 98 (European Qualifiers) : Ireland defeated Lithuania by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 1998 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday night.
The result put the Irish second in Group 8 with 17 points. Lithuania is third with 14 points. In their last game, Ireland will meet group leaders Romania on October 11, while Lithuania will face Macedonia.
