World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Saudi Arabia beats UAE 2-1
JEDDAH, Oct. 8, 2015 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Saudi Arabia defeated the United Arab Emirates by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah.
Al-Sahlawi scored dual goals
Emirati forward Ahmed Khalil opened the score in the 18th minute, before seeing Saudi Arabia catch up in the 45th minute thanks to Al-Sahlawi. 1-1 at half time. The Saudis eventually won the game in the second period with with another goal by Al-Sahlawi on penalty seconds before the end of regulation.
The result put the Saudi top of Group A with 12 points. UAE is second with 7 points. In their next game, Saudi Arabia will meet third-placed Palestine at the King Abdullah International Stadium on November 9, while the United Arab Emirates will face East Timor.
