TEHRAN, Sep. 1, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Iran defeated Qatar by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with goals by Ghoochannejhad ('90) and Jahanbakhsh ('90).
The result put the Iranians top of Group A with 3 points. In their next game, Iran will meet China at the Azadi Stadium on September 6, while Qatar will face Uzbekistan.
