World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Iran beats Uzbekistan 2-0
TEHRAN, Jun. 12, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Iran defeated Uzbekistan by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday night at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Iran dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Azmoun in the 23rd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Iranians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Taremi with just 2 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Iranians top of Group A with 20 points. Uzbekistan is third with 12 points. In their next game, Iran will meet second-placed South Korea at the Azadi Stadium on August 31, while Uzbekistan will face China.
