World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : UAE beats Japan 2-1
SAITAMA, Sep. 1, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : The United Arab Emirates defeated Japan by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Saitama Stadium 2002 in Saitama.
Ahmed Khalil scored dual goals
Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda opened the score in the 11th minute, before seeing the United Arab Emirates catch up in the 20th minute thanks to Ahmed Khalil. 1-1 at half time. The Emiratis eventually won the game in the second period with with another goal by Khalil on penalty in the 54th minute.
The result put the Emirati second in Group B with 3 points. In their next game, the United Arab Emirates will meet group leaders Australia at the Saitama Stadium 2002 on September 6, while Japan will face Thailand.
