World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Saudi Arabia beats Iraq 2-1
SHAH ALAM, Sep. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Saudi Arabia defeated Iraq by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Al Abed scored dual goals
Iraq had started off well by taking the lead in the 18th minute with a goal by Abdul-Raheem. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Saudis nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Al Abed '81 on penalty, '88 on penalty).
The result put the Saudi top of Group B with 6 points. Iraq is bottom with no points. In their next game, Saudi Arabia will meet second-placed Australia at the Shah Alam Stadium on October 6, while Iraq will face Japan.
