ABU DHABI, Sep. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Australia defeated the United Arab Emirates by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
45 minutes of play and neither the Australians nor the Emiratis have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Australian forward Tim Cahill in the 75th minute.
The result put the Australians top of Group B with 6 points. UAE is fourth with 3 points. In their next game, Australia will meet second-placed Saudi Arabia at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on October 6, while the United Arab Emirates will face Thailand.
