ABU DHABI, Oct. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : The United Arab Emirates defeated Thailand by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Ali Mabkhout scored dual goals
The United Arab Emirates dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Ali Mabkhout in the 14th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Emiratis further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Mabkhout '47 and Khalil '90).
The result put the Emirati second in Group B with 6 points. Thailand is bottom with no points. In their next game, the United Arab Emirates will meet Saudi Arabia at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on October 11, while Thailand will face Iraq.
