MELBOURNE, Oct. 11, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Australia tied 1-1 with Japan (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.

The Japaneses started off well by taking the lead thanks to Japanese forward Genki Haraguchi in the 5th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Australia with a saving goal from Australian midfielder Mile Jedinak on penalty in the 52nd minute.

The result put the Australians top of Group B with 8 points. Japan is second with 7 points. In their next game, Australia will meet Thailand at the Docklands Stadium on November 15, while Japan will face Saudi Arabia.
