World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : UAE beats Iraq 2-0
ABU DHABI, Nov. 15, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : The United Arab Emirates defeated Iraq by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The United Arab Emirates dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Ahmed Khalil in the 26th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Emiratis further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Matar in stoppage time.
The result put the Emirati third in Group B with 9 points. Iraq is 5th with 3 points. In their next game, the United Arab Emirates will meet Japan at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on March 23, while Iraq will face Australia.
