World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Iraq hold Japan to 1-1
TEHRAN, Jun. 13, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Iraq tied 1-1 with Japan (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday afternoon at the Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium in Tehran.
The Japaneses started off well by taking the lead thanks to Japanese forward Yuya Osako in the 8th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Iraq with a saving goal from Kamel in the 73rd minute.
The result put the Japanese top of Group B with 17 points. Iraq is 5th with 5 points. In their next game, Japan will meet third-placed Australia at the Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium on August 31, while Iraq will face Thailand.
