World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : UAE beats Saudi Arabia 2-1
AL-AIN, Aug. 29, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : The United Arab Emirates defeated Saudi Arabia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al-Ain.
Al-Abed opened the score in the 20th minute on penalty, before seeing the United Arab Emirates catch up in the 21st minute thanks to Ali Mabkhout. 1-1 at half time. The Emiratis eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Khalil in the 60th minute.
The result put the Saudi second in Group B with 16 points. UAE is fourth with 13 points. In their last game, Saudi Arabia will meet group leaders Japan at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on September 5, while the United Arab Emirates will face Iraq.
