World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Iraq beats Thailand 2-1
BANGKOK, Aug. 31, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (Asian Qualifiers) : Iraq defeated Thailand by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.
Iraq dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Meram in the 34th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Iraqis further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Abdul-Amir on penalty with just 5 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Iraqi 5th in Group B with 8 points. Thailand is bottom with 2 points. In their last game, Iraq will meet the United Arab Emirates at the Rajamangala National Stadium on September 5, while Thailand will face Australia.
