World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Mexico beats El Salvador 3-1
SAN SALVADOR, Sep. 2, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (American Qualifiers) : Mexico defeated El Salvador by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday night at the Cuscatlan Stadium in San Salvador.
El Salvador had started off well by taking the lead in the 24th minute with a goal by Larín on penalty. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Mexicans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Moreno '52, Sepúlveda '58 and Jiménez '73 on penalty).
The result put the Mexicans top of Group A with 15 points. El Salvador is bottom with 2 points. In their last game, Mexico will meet second-placed Honduras at the Cuscatlan Stadium on September 6, while El Salvador will face Canada.
