Argentina beats Costa Rica to reach Copa América quarterfinals

CORDOBA, Jul. 11, 2011 (AMP) — Argentina 2011 : Argentina defeated Costa Rica by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a Copa América group stage game on Monday night at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Cordoba.

Sergio Agüero scored dual goals

Argentina dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Sergio Agüero in the 45th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Argentines further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Agüero '52 and Ángel Di María '63).

Argentina advance to the Quarterfinals. Costa Rica is eliminated.
