DAMASCUS, Jun. 4, 1997 (AMP) — France 98 (Asian Qualifiers) : Syria defeated the Maldives by a big score of 12-0 (halftime: 7-0), in a qualifying game for the 1998 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday afternoon.
The result put the Syrians second in Group 2 with 3 points. The Maldives is bottom with no points. In their next game, Syria will meet group leaders Iran on June 6, while the Maldives will face Kyrgyzstan.
