TEHRAN, Jun. 11, 1997 (AMP) — France 98 (Asian Qualifiers) : Iran defeated the Maldives by a big score of 9-0 (halftime: 7-0), in a qualifying game for the 1998 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday night.
The result put the Iranians top of Group 2 with 15 points. The Maldives is bottom with no points. In their last game, Iran will meet second-placed Syria on June 13, while the Maldives will face Kyrgyzstan.
