BERN, Jun. 16, 1954 (AMP) — Switzerland 54 : Uruguay defeated Czechoslovakia by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with goals by Míguez ('72) and Juan Alberto Schiaffino ('81).
The result put the Uruguayans top of Group 3 with 2 points. In their last game, Uruguay will meet third-placed Scotland at the Wankdorf Stadium on June 19, while Czechoslovakia will face Austria.
