RANCAGUA, May. 31, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Hungary defeated England by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the El Teniente Stadium in Rancagua.
Hungary dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Lajos Tichy in the 17th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Hungarians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Albert in the 71st minute.
The result put the Hungarians top of Group 4 with 2 points. In their next game, Hungary will meet Bulgaria at the El Teniente Stadium on June 3, while England will face Argentina.
