RANCAGUA, Jun. 2, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : England defeated Argentina by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the El Teniente Stadium in Rancagua.
England dominated the first half thanks to goals from Flowers ('17 on penalty) and Charlton ('42). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Englishs further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Greaves in the 67th minute.
The result put the English top of Group 4 with 2 points. Argentina is third with 2 points. In their last game, England will meet Bulgaria at the El Teniente Stadium on June 7, while Argentina will face Hungary.
