HANOVER, Jun. 15, 1974 (AMP) — Germany 74 : The Netherlands defeated Uruguay by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Niedersachsenstadion in Hanover.
Johnny Rep scored dual goals
The Netherlands dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Johnny Rep in the 7th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Dutchs further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Rep with just 4 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Dutch top of Group C with 2 points. In their next game, the Netherlands will meet third-placed Sweden at the Niedersachsenstadion on June 19, while Uruguay will face Bulgaria.
