World Cup 1978 : Tunisia beats Mexico 3-1
ROSARIO, Jun. 2, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Tunisia defeated Mexico by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday afternoon at the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito in Rosario.
Mexico had started off well by taking the lead in the 45th minute with a goal by defender Arturo Vázquez Ayala on penalty. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Tunisians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Kaabi '55, Ghommidh '79 and Dhouieb '87).
The result put the Tunisians top of Group B with 2 points. In their next game, Tunisia will meet third-placed Poland at the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito on June 6, while Mexico will face Germany.
