ROME, Jun. 9, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Italy defeated Austria by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday night at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
45 minutes of play and neither the Italians nor the Austrians have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with a saving goal by Italian forward Salvatore Schillaci in the 78th minute.
The result put the Italians top of Group A with 2 points. In their next game, Italy will meet the United States at the Stadio Olimpico on June 14, while Austria will face Czechoslovakia.
