BARI, Jun. 9, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Romania defeated USSR by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari.
Marius Lacatus scored dual goals
Romania dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Marius Lacatus in the 42nd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Romanians further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Lacatus on penalty in the 57th minute.
The result put the Romanians top of Group B with 2 points. In their next game, Romania will meet second-placed Cameroon at the Stadio San Nicola on June 14, while USSR will face Argentina.
