NAPLES, Jun. 13, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Argentina defeated USSR by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the San Paolo Stadium in Naples.
Argentina dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Pedro Troglio in the 27th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Argentines further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Burruchaga in the 79th minute.
The result put the Argentine second in Group B with 2 points. USSR is bottom with no points. In their last game, Argentina will meet group leaders Romania at the San Paolo Stadium on June 18, while USSR will face Cameroon.
