VERONA, Jun. 17, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Belgium defeated Uruguay by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday night at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi in Verona.
Belgium dominated the first half thanks to goals from Clijsters ('16) and Scifo ('22). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Belgians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Ceulemans in the 47th minute.
The result put the Belgians top of Group E with 4 points. Uruguay is third with one point. In their last game, Belgium will meet second-placed Spain at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on June 21, while Uruguay will face South Korea.
